Mayor Wasserman Speaks to Cub Scouts
Fremont Mayor Robert Wasserman was a guest speaker at the Cub Scout Pack 163 monthly Pack Meeting, held on May 31st at Brookvale Elementary School in Fremont. A former Boy Scout, Mayor Wasserman advised the Cub Scouts to continue with Scouting as it prepared him for his career as a Police Officer and later Police Chief. He said that when new Police recuits had Scouting experience they were always great officers. The Mayor said that the activity he most enjoyed as a Scout was camping.
The former Police Chief said that he enjoyed his career, and advised the young people to find a career that they enjoy. “Try to do something that you really like. You have choices”, the Mayor stated. He cautioned against doing something you don’t like doing, because by the time you retire you’ll hate everything. The Mayor said that he enjoys speaking to young people.
Many thanks to Mayor Robert Wasserman for coming to speak to Cub Scout Pack 163!

Webelos II Den Receives Arrow of Light Award
Our Webelos II den, led by Mike Vigil, received their Arrow of Light awards at our monthly Pack meeting tonight. The Arrow of Light is the highest award in Cub Scouting and is the only Cub Scout award that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform. Congrats to our “graduating class” of Webelos II Scouts who have now bridged into Boy Scouting and beyond.
Our Pack meeting was also memorable in that we welcomed a brand new Den into our Pack. Den 6 is a new Tiger Cub den led by Minoti Amin. Thanks too to Ruth Dalton for the great looking and great tasting cakes for our celebration tonight.

Scouting for Food - Nov. 13 and Nov. 20
Scouting for Food is the largest community service food drive in the Bay Area involving Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, Sea Scouts, and Explorers and is part of Good Turn for America.
Good Turn for America is a national call to service by the Boy Scouts of America that will help provide adequate food and shelter and to develop good health habits in our nation. To address these issues, we are collaborating with some of the most respected service organizations working in each of these areas. These lead organizations, and thousands of other local groups, will work to provide volunteer opportunities for youth and adults to fight hunger, provide shelter, and teach the habits of healthy living.
First Saturday we will distribute door hangers to houses in the Brookvale neighborhood. These flyers talk about the program and invite residents to put out canned food items the following Saturday. Then, the next Saturday we will pick up any food left out and take it to a local Scouting distribution center.
- November 13 - 9 am - Noonish at Brookvale School (Flyer distribution with Boy Scout Troop 143)
- November 20 - 9 am - Noonish at Brookvale School (Food pickup with Boy Scout Troop 154)
The more participants we have the quicker and more efficient we’ll be. Please join us.
Open House Recruiting
Pack 163 had a presence at the Open House events at Brookvale and Warwick Elementary Schools last night.
Although our Scout program tends to wind down during summer vacation, we do have a few events planned for summer in addition to the Cub Scout camps for current Scouts. We are planning a Movie Night in July and a BBQ Picnic in late August.
Check this site for updates to our summer programs.
