Webelos Dens Hike Flag Hill

Our two Webelos dens had an outing today to hike Flag Hill in Sunol-Ohlone Regional Park. This is a steep hill, so it’s recommended for older Cub Scouts. We had great weather and dry ground for our hike. We started in the valley floor and made it up the 1.6 mile hike in just 51 minutes! At the top we took a break for lunch and great company.  We took gentler trails on the way down.

Scout Saturday at Hiller Aviation Museum - January 14

hiller_logoFor January, I would like to invite all Dens to the Scout Saturday on Jan. 14, 2012 at Hiller Aviation Museum at the San Carlos Airport.

Scouts and Scout leaders in uniform will be admitted to the Museum at no charge. Explore the Museum’s collection of over 40 different historic aircraft, observe airport operations at busy San Carlos Airport, find out more about Interest Patch and Merit Badge programs offered throughout the year  and attend presentations by two former Scouts who led exemplary careers in aviation. Eagle Scout/USAF Colonel William Wardwell (Retd) will speak at 11 AM.

Note: There is no carpooling planned and you are welcome to visit any time during the day, there is no specific time for the pack.

Niles Festival of Lights Parade Info

I have finally received the information for the Niles Holiday Festival of Lights Parade. The parade will be on Friday November 25th starting at 6:30pm     and will last about an hour.  We are unit number 49 and will stage/line up in the Sullivan Underpass (please see map below) I’d like everyone to meet at 6:00pm in this lot.  Parking is usually challenging during this event, so please plan on extra time to park far away and walk to the lot.

This is a great community event and is always lots of fun.  The theme is Festival of Lights, so lets see if we can go with that theme and do it Boy Scout Style.  If you have a battery powered camping light (the ones you carry), or the small headlights you wear on your head, or small decorative lights you can wear or carry, let’s bring those. We will have our banner and we will need two scouts to carry and two more to carry our flags. It is always cold during this event, so make sure you bundle up.Unfortunately if it is cold, our scout uniforms won’t be seen.

Please review the attachments. Participants in the parade are no longer allowed to pass out throw items into the crowd. What a bummer, that was one of the fun parts.

The staging information on where to line up is included along with a map.   Please let me know if you are planning in joining in the fun.

This is a great family event, so bring out the whole family to walk.  Wagons work great for the younger siblings, if they get tired they can hop right in.

Please let me know if you have any questions,

See you on Friday,
Ruth Dalton

Scouting for Food

sff-logoThis is a great event where we will collect food for the needy. It’s a major effort by all Scouting units in the Bay Area.

November 12, Saturday, 9 am - Noon (approx), Brookvale School
We will be working with Boy Scout Troop 132 to pass out door hangers in the Brookvale neighborhood. This should take between 2-3 hrs, and those who arrive promptly will be treated to donuts and drinks.

November 19, Saturday, 9 am - Noon, Brookvale School
On this day we will be working with Boy Scout Troop 154 to pick up food that people leave in front of their homes (in the same Brookvale neighborhood).  Then we will meet at a central location to sort the food for delivery. Donuts and drinks for those who arrive early.

The hike is completed by looping back on the East Ridge Trail, which gives access to different scenery and great views. This is a longer hike. Therefore the BSA has designated this hike a Bears/Webelo hike.

Meet at the Canyon Meadow staging area at 1 pm (as indicated on the map).
